The Access to HE Diploma are preparatory courses that lead specifically to a degree course in a particular study area. They enable adults without other qualifications such as A levels to progress to higher education. In some cases, there are arrangements for successful students to have automatic entry into partner HE institutions. Regulated by the QAA, the Access to HE Diploma is widely recognised by UK universities and colleges.

Most Access courses can be completed in one year or less, although many institutions allow two or more years for completion. There are full-time as well as part-time and distance learning options. The Access to HE qualification is equivalent in standard to other level 3 qualifications such as A levels.
