Changes to the FE Landscape

The FE sector can feel like it is in a state of constant reform as successive governments attempt to influence the shape of qualifications outside schools and universities. Policy reform within the FE learning and skills sector has been continuous since Lord Foster and Lord Leitch published reviews of FE and Skills in 2005 and 2006 respectively.

At the heart of major reform to the vocational qualification landscape is the Qualifications and Credit Framework which has been designed to make the whole system simpler to understand and use, and more inclusive. The intention has been to make the system and the qualifications offered far more relevant to the needs of employers, and more flexible and accessible to learners.

This workshop looked at the QCF  and related reform, and explored what this means in practice for the learner; is it achieving its aim of making qualifications and learning more relevant and accessible? Or are we all still confused? How can we help our learners make sense of this landscape?
