Working with schools and colleges beyond Widening Participation.
This workshop explored different models for arts HE to support schools above and beyond the WP agenda.
Mission Impossible- University for the Creative Arts (UCA) and the Strood Academy: Expression of Interest to Funding Agreement and open for business in eighteen months was to many in our community mission impossible...
Through commitment to the UCA values, creativity, collaboration, distinctiveness, respect and sustainability with an integrated team approach, the UCA Lead Sponsorship of the Strood Academy became a reality on 1 September 2009. The Academy Improvement and Raising Attainment plan clearly articulates the distance to travel but the smiling faces of 240 Year 7 co-ed pupils at the end of the day, the pride in the new uniform, the commitment of the Academy Leadership Team and the overwhelming sense of a fresh start is an early indication that the Strood Academy is already making a difference…share our journey.
The Young Design Programme: Over a number of years the Young Design Programme has brought together arts HE students with school students to explore issues of school design. This workshop provides an update on the learning from this work, including the joinedupdesign for academies programme and work with FE colleges.
The Newham Creative Hub: Developed under the government's Creative Britain strategy, the Creative Hub is UAL's key response to the Prime Minister's request that HEIs work with a specific school or schools. Launched in June 2008, the Hub involves UAL working with four secondary schools and two FE colleges in Newham, with an approach based on the question "What can we do to help?".
