Building a Creative Knowledge Economy for 2020
What could or should the economy look like in 2020? Where are we now and how do we get there? As we can no longer rely on the financial services, what sectors do we need to grow to take its place?
Our strengths lie in the cultural and creative fields, which need to be given higher positioning as agents for change. The knowledge economy is at the forefront of shaping our future economy with ‘knowledge based assets’ and ‘intangibles’ such as design emerging as key drivers.
So what could an innovation system look like for 2020 and what will the government need to do to get the ball rolling? With the forthcoming spending reviews, where will government funds be directed and what are the roles for the creative and cultural sectors and Higher Education in regenerating our economy?
