NALN's major focus is to increase progression for vocational learners, particularly those from under-represented sections of the population.

In order to ensure that its approach to progression work is based on clear evidence and best practice, NALN commissioned a series of projects. These have investigated various stages of the learner journey and developed recommendations for use within NALN and the wider arts education community. They have also developed a range of materials from research reports to web-based learner support materials.
