FdA to BA Progression

Whilst progression within an institution from Foundation Degree (FdA) to the final year of a BA (Top up provision) happens regularly, students wishing to progress to a different institution can meet barriers. Research carried out as part of NALN’s work identified that there is no common model regarding articulation from FdA to the final year of a BA.

Mobility between institutions is often difficult for many students due to personal or domestic constraints. It does take place, but has not been formally promoted to students. This means that students have had to investigate progression opportunities independently, rather than building on relationships which are already established.

As part of this work, NALN mapped FdA provision from NALN institutions onto NALN Top up provision with capacity to recruit. This is aimed at students on FdAs wishing to explore opportunities to top up at other institutions, and course tutors supporting those students.

Please take a look at the mapping exercise which charted member institutions' FdAs and the Top-Up provision which students graduating from these FdAs could expect to progress to. It is a reference document to describe courses run at member institutions courses in the 2008/ 2009 academic year.
