FE-HE dialogue

FE-HE dialogue events were part of NALN’s sustainability plan, and continue to be a successful and rewarding aspect of progression managers’ work. Hosted by member institutions, the events offer the opportunity to bring staff from partner FE colleges together with member’s HE academic staff.

Offered as continuing professional development to academic staff in both further and higher education institutions, the aim is to develop FE-HE curriculum-level dialogue in order to increase mutual understanding of the curricula, delivery and assessment styles of the FE and HE courses included in progression agreements. Ultimately these activities will lead to relationships between FE and HE focused around curriculum development and alignment.

The objectives of the FE:HE dialogue are:

1. FE delivery staff will be able to identify key skills, knowledge and experience that students on FE vocational courses should have in order to progress successfully onto identified HE courses;
2. HE staff will be able to identify key skills, knowledge and experience that students on level 3 vocational courses develop;
3. FE staff will be able to outline the curriculum content, delivery styles and modes of assessment of identified HE courses;
4. HE and FE staff will engage in a discussion about how best to support the successful progression of vocational students including curriculum alignment.
