Bridging

The aim of this project was to develop the curriculum to accommodate learners from vocational pathways at key transition points:

• Further Education to Higher Education
• Foundation degree to BA(Hons)

In order to do this, the project concentrated on:

• Reviewing current bridging provision across the NALN network in order to identify good practice nationally

• Researching student/staff perceptions and effectiveness of bridging programmes at selected NALN institutions in order to inform new developments

This work produced a series of reports and resources that can be found on a dedicate website, www.arts.ac.uk/naln/bridging/.

Reports and resources include:

  • Bridging from FdA to Honours Degree report
  • Evaluation of Bridging Programmes Report
  • Manual of Bridging Programmes

Furthermore the 'Bridging' project also looked at:

• Refining current bridging provision and identifying key strategies, including different delivery modes, which will enhance student understanding and expectations across the differing levels.

The project also funded a one year 'Preparation for HE' programme piloted at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design and Hereford College of Arts. This work has resulted in the following studies and reports:
